What is OFS Legacy?
OFS Legacy offers young adults on-the-job training and work experience while working toward their high school diploma or HSED. Applicants must be 16 to 24 years old. Once hired, participants work on construction or conservation crews four days each week. Participants focus on personal growth and behavioral change, complete a personalized academic plan, and develop a career plan for transition to college and careers. Upon completion of the initial 900 hours, participants continue to be supported for one year as they transition to independent work, post-high school education or training.
What can you expect to gain from OFS Legacy?
Participants work on personal growth and change toward personal goals. During their time at OFS, participants are paid a small stipend (twice a month) and earn an AmeriCorps Education Award to help pay for college. Our graduates leave OFS prepared to reach their goals.
What do OFS Legacy Participants do?
OFS Legacy Construction crews build affordable homes throughout Dane County. All homes are energy efficient and are either new construction or renovations of existing homes.
Conservation crews build and maintain natural areas in and around Madison and Dane County. We have contracts with Madison City Parks and Dane County Parks. Projects include building and maintaining trails, removing invasive species, and planting native plants.
OFS Legacy participants work toward their high school diploma or HSED with support from teachers, staff, and volunteers.
Career and College Preparation
With support from their Participant Services Team, Participants explore career and educational options, find internships and paid work, and/or enroll in post-high school education. OFS continues to provide support for participants for one year after completion of their term.
