By building or renovating affordable housing, OFS participants make an invaluable contribution to the community. In the process, they build self-confidence, learn team-work, acquire job skills, and grow personally. OFS construction crews perform all phases of construction, except those requiring building trades licenses or heavy equipment. Crew members receive on-site training in green construction techniques. The end result is a well-built, energy-efficient, hazard-free home that is an asset to the homebuyer and neighborhood, as well as a source of pride to the OFS crew who built it. To date, OFS crews have built or remodeled 200 homes in Madison and Dane County. The new homes meet or exceed Wisconsin Energy Star standards. Both the new and remodeled homes are also certified as being Green Built Homes.
