Building Futures

Building Futures is Now!

For over 45 years, Operation Fresh Start has given 8,000 disconnected youth a second chance in life by building a path forward to self-sufficiency. Now it is time to prepare for the next 45 years.

More giving options are available on our donate page.

The Building Futures Campaign will build a future home for Operation Fresh Start – a cost-effective learning and training center to serve twice as many youth annually. In Dane County, nearly 4,000 youth (between the ages of 16-24) are out of school and jobless. Operation Fresh Start annually serves 200 disconnected youth by providing education to attain a high school credential, job training in construction or conservation work, and guided mentorship in the transition into post-secondary education or a living wage career. We know we need to reach more youth in Dane County through a greater array of programming and opportunities. However, due to space constraints, we are unable to develop innovative new programming to fulfill community need. We are asking our community to come together and help us transform more lives and give more second chances!

“OFS’ work as an organization is absolutely necessary if we are to make progress in our community toward improving the well-being and future prospects of all our youth and particularly our youth of color.”
– Erica Nelson, Project Director, Race to Equity and OFS Board Member

Our Future Home Awaits!

Operation Fresh Start youth participants, partners, and volunteers are currently renovating the former home of Holy Cross Church and School at 2670 Milwaukee Street in Madison. The entire renovation process is providing opportunities for youth to work on a commercial project and learn various aspects of the trades!

Get Involved! Help Operation Fresh Start reach our goal of serving twice as many young adults in Dane County.
