Affordable Housing

Each year, OFS Pathways crews build or renovate homes in Madison and other Dane County communities. These homes are sold on the open market to income-eligible home buyers. OFS homes are carefully built or remodeled to be energy-efficient, free of hazards like lead paint or asbestos, and easy to maintain. Both newly-built and remodeled homes follow standards of sustainable construction and are certified by Green Built Homes, a certification process sponsored by the Wisconsin Environmental Initiative.

Standard Features of Newly Constructed OFS Homes

Operation Fresh Start homes that are new construction are typically “Focus on Energy Certified.”  This ensures that they are well insulated, airtight, and have energy efficient furnaces, hot water heaters, and ventilation fans.  They also have the “Energy Star Advanced Lighting Package” meaning that at least 60% of the light fixtures are “Focus on Energy Certified” (Our homes are typically 100% Energy Star lighting).  All of these features result in significant savings in the heating, lighting, and general operation of our homes.

We build as many of these specifications into our renovated homes as we can:
